NAPS is an industry –friendly scheme for engaging apprentices in the leather sector. It has made apprenticeship attractive for both industry and youth by removing stringent clauses from the Apprentice Act of 1961. Apprenticeship is a proven solution the world over, to train the workforce as per emerging industry needs. Leather industry has 26,741 registered MSMEs and 62,574 unregistered MSMEs as per a survey conducted by Ministry of MSME. Major leather clusters producing footwear, garments and goods need to improve their productivity and scale up to sustain their business
