Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC), in collaboration with Central Footwear Training Institute (CFTI), organized a Skill Card and Certificate distribution function for candidates trained under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY). The event was held on 3rd July 2016 at Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu, when 273 candidates were awarded the cards and certificates.
The program was presided over by Shri. K. Murali, Director, CFTI and was attended by Shri Rajaram, DSP – Tirunelveli, Shri Mir Maqsood Ali, Manager-Administration, LSSC, Shri Kallur Velayutham, Union Chairman, Thaliyuthu, Shri T. Jancy Tamil Mani, Panchayat President and Smt. Usha, Principal, Jeyandra Saraswathi Vidhyalaya.
Addressing the audience, Shri Rajaram, appreciated the efforts of NSDC, LSSC and CFTI in equipping the workforce with right skills for jobs in the leather industry. Shri Rajaram also noted that large sections of women are being trained and empowered with jobs in this industry sector. He laid great emphasis on women empowerment through education and skill-based training.
The candidates were excited about learning new skills and they were eager to practice the trade at the earliest. To match their motivation and enthusiasm levels, there is an urgent need to set up industrial units at Tirunelveli, as there is no leather industry presence in this area right now. This will also help the candidates improve their means of real income with better and sustainable livelihood.
