The LSSC has achieved several milestones in its Skill Development Journey. LSSC has so far trained about 80,000 fresh candidates (unemployed youth) in various job roles of leather, leather products and footwear industry under Pradhan Manrti Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) and also upgraded skills of 1,12, 000 existing workers in the industry under PMKVY. LSSC has also  developed 54 Qualification Packs for various job roles in the leather, leather products and footwear industry, based on which the training is provided.  LSSC has a target of training 1 lakh more existing workers of the industry under RPL.

It is extremely gratifying to inform you that the Skill Certification Award Ceremony organised by LSSC on 22nd September 2019 at Kalaivanar Arangam, Walajah Road, Chennai was a grand success. First of all, I would like to thank Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, Hon’ble Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India for gracing this occasion and distributing the certificates. I also thank Thiru K. Pandiarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Language and Tamil Culture, Government of Tamil Nadu for taking part in this event. I thank Dr. Nilofer Kafeel, Hon’ble Minister for Labour and Employment, Government of Tamil Nadu for all her support for this event. This was the first event of the leather, leather products and footwear industry which witnessed a substantially large participation of 1500 people who had undergone training. These include existing workers in the industry who were trained under Required Prior Learning (RPL) Scheme of PMKVY and fresh trainees under Human Resources Development (HRD) Scheme of Indian Footwear Leather and Accessories Development Programme (IFLADP).

Considering the success of the Chennai Skill Certification Award Ceremony, we have planned to organise such events in other regions also.

As our sector is a labour intensive sector, our large scale skill development efforts will continue so as to increase the confidence and productivity levels of our workers and achieve greater growth levels in production and exports.
