Shri P R Aqeel Ahmed, Chairman, CLE and LSSC, thanked the Hon’ble Union Minister of MSME Shri Nitin Gadkari for providing financial support towards organising India Pavilion in the Magic Show Fair held in Las Vegas. He apprised the minister that 92% of the leather and footwear industry is concentrated in MSME segment and India is the second largest producer of footwear and leather garments.
Briefing on the opportunity to enhance exports to markets like USA, he said there is a need for additional capacities. For this, the Government has to provide ready to use plug-in-and-play factories and also income tax holidays as done in countries like Vietnam. He also explained about the role of Leather Sector Skill Council and the various initiatives undertaken by LSSC for skill development. Emphasising the importance of quality, innovation and design to succeed in the global market, the Hon’ble MSME Minister urged the industry to spread to rural areas and make use of land available along the highway corridors being developed by the Government.
