A note on LSSC’s Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) held on 26th September 2019

The 7th Annual General Meeting of Leather Sector Skill Council was held on Thursday, 26th September 2019 at Hotel Taj Coromandel, Chennai.  Mr. P. R. Aqeel Ahmed, Chairman – LSSC; Mr. Shafeeq Ahmed, Mr. K.R. Vijayan, Mr. M. Rafeeque Ahmed Mr. R. Selvam, IAS were the members present in the AGM. Mr. Rajesh Rathnam, COO-LSSC, Mr. R. Raghunathan, Auditor also attended the meeting.

Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed began the meeting by stating that the company had a decent financial year and posted a profit of Rs.46 Lakhs. He also informed the members that  LSSC has been appointed as National Monitoring Unit (NMU) by the DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for HRD sub-scheme of the IFLADP scheme and has submitted report for 88456 candidates. The target for 2019-20 is 1,70,000 candidates.

Sharing the impact during the financial year 2018-19, he said that  a total number of 61666 candidates were enrolled and trained under the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Best in Class Employer scheme under PMKVY at Vellore, Ambur, Kanpur, Agra, Kolkata, Ranipet, Chennai, Bangalore, Haryana, Delhi etc. He further added that LSSC has been given a target of 2 Lakhs RPL Certifications and hoped that industry will continue its cooperation to upskill and certify the workers in their premises. LSSC has completed 4224 candidates training under Special Projects in Kanpur, Agra, Vellore, Ambur, Bangalore and West Bengal.

Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed informed the house that LSSC is embarking on new initiatives and has signed an MoU with M/s. Webcon Consulting India Ltd. for skills mobility from east to south. Under the Skill Mobility MoU exchanged, Webcon will train candidates at West Bengal and migrate them to the industries at Southern Leather Clusters where the demand for manpower is huge. Mr. Shafeeq Ahmed welcomed the initiative and said it’s the need of the hour and offered all help from leather associations. Mr. P.R. Aqeel Ahmed further added that LSSC has planned to train inmates of Yerwada Jail at Pune and Puzhal Jail in Chennai in Leather Skills and certify them. The meeting concluded with a discussion on balance sheet and decided to appoint an auditor for the year 2019-2020 and fix their remuneration.
