Inauguration of Multi Skill Leather Training Center at Kanpur on 27th July 2017

Leather Sector Skill Council (LSSC) has launched a Multi Skill Training Center for leather trades in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The multi skill center at Kanpur Unnao Leather Cluster Campus (KLC) was inaugurated on 27th July 2017 by the Shri Sathish Mahana, Hon’ble Minister for Industries Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh by unveiling the plaque and lighting up the lamp. The training center is part of the plan to skill 50000 candidates across India and 10000 candidates in Kanpur Cluster under PMKVY – Special Project MoU signed in the presence of our Hon’ble Prime Minister of India at Kanpur.

Shri Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman-CLE, Dr. B. Chandrasekaran, Director-CLRI, Shri Javed Iqbal, Regional Chairman (Central)-CLE, Shri Rakesh Suri, Director-KLC, Shri R.Ramesh Kumar, IAS, CEO-LSSC, Smt Medha Roopam, Joint Magistrate, Unnao District Shri O.P. Pandey, Director-KLC also participated in the inaugural ceremony.

leather-multiskill-center-kanpurOn this event, Shri. Sathish Mahana, Hon’ble Minister for Industries Development distributed certificates for the successful candidates certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.(PMKVY).

The event started with a welcome address by the Shri R. Ramesh Kumar, IAS. He welcomed the all the dignitaries and gave an overall view of the leather sector specific to Uttar Pradesh and its strength. Shri R. Ramesh Kumar, IAS invited the Hon’ble Minister to officially release the new video presentation of the CLE which showcases the India’s capability in the global leather market, which was duly released by the Hon’ble Minister with a click of a button.

leather-multi-skill-center-kanpur1Chairman-CLE, Shri Mukhtarul Amin, addressed that, under PMKVY scheme, Leather Sector has been given a big responsibility to provide training to 50,000 unemployed youth in Kanpur / Unnao under Leather Sector which facilitate employment to the youth after completion of training. He reiterated that leather and footwear industry is aiming to reach greater heights both on domestic front and on exports. As per an analysis, every Rs.1 crore of investment in the leather industry generates 250 jobs, which clearly shows that leather industry is a labour intensive industry. Hence, Skill Development is extremely crucial for the leather industry to enhance productivity levels and move-up the value chain, both in the domestic market and on export front.

Shri Mukhtarul Amin, took the opportunity and whole-heartedly thanked the Government of India and State Governments for providing funds for skill development in leather industry, through which thousands of unemployed people belonging to economically weaker sections are trained and employed. The leather and footwear industry takes pride in being part of this noble initiative of training and providing employment.

Shri Javed Iqbal, Regional Chairman-CLE, spoke about skilling requirement of Uttar Pradesh and he invited the industry to take part in offering on the job training and apprenticeship to the students.

The speech was followed by Dr. B. Chandrasekar, Director-CLRI. He spoke about pollution issues and clean Ganga and he was confident that CLRI can help by adopting to the Tamil Nadu model.

Shri Satish Mahana, Hon’ble Minister for Industries Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh promised that efforts are being made by the government to resolve issues of tanneries.

The event ended with a Vote of Thanks from Shri O.P. Pandey, Executive Director, KLC, who focused on the advantages of training center established at KLC complex

Planting of Trees

On this occasion, trees were planted at the KLC Campus by Shri Sathish Mahana, Hon’ble Minister for Industries Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Mukhtarul Amin, Chairman-CLE, Dr. B. Chandrasekaran, Director-CLRI, Shri Javed Iqbal, Regional Chairman (Central)-CLE, Shri Rakesh Suri, Director-KLC, Smt Medha Roopam, Joint Magistrate, Unnao District.
